On Sunday, an early morning wrong way crash in Prince George’s County left two people dead and one injured. According to Maryland State Police, the crash occurred near Woodyard Road, when a Toyota RAV4 driving in the wrong direction on Route 4 slammed head-on into a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The RAV4 driver and a passenger in the Jeep were both pronounced dead at the scene. The Jeep driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. An investigation into the crash is ongoing and impairment is believed to be a factor, authorities said.
Wrong-way driving is one of the most dangerous driving situations, often leading to head-on collisions that carry significant risk of serious injury or death. Because vehicles typically strike each other at full speed, head-on collisions are far more severe than most other types of vehicle accidents. In most cases, drug or alcohol impairment, distraction, or confusion about directions or road signs contributes to a driver entering a highway in the wrong direction.
Head-on collisions frequently raise complex questions about fault, insurance, and potential claims for those who are injured or families who lose loved ones in vehicle accidents. An experienced car accident lawyer can investigate the accident, determine fault, and pursue compensation for medical bills, lost income, and other damages.
